Ancient Egypt
Cities/Geography
Egypt, one of the first river-valley civilizations as Mesopotamia was also surrounded by treacherous environments. Running through Egypt, the Nile River impressively spans more than 4000 miles long making it the longest river in the world. The Nile Delta allowed civilization to be possible in Egypt due to it's conditions and being that it's land is a desert. To the north lies the Mediterranean Sea. To the east lies the Red Sea. To the west and east was the Western and Eastern Deserts. All these environments isolated Egypt.
Government
In Egyptian government, pharaohs were believed to have had absolute power. It was a bureaucracy, an administrative organization with officials and regular procedures. Also, the government was a theocracy, where dynastic god-kings ruled the kingdom.
Social Structure
In Egypt, the ruler, which was the King had the strongest power. From there came the Upper class that consisted of nobles & priest. In the middle class were the merchants, artisans, and scribes. Then the lower class which were slaves/peasants.
Religion
Egyptians were polytheistic as well believing in many gods. Their types of gods are made up of Sun and Land. They had heavenly bodies and natural faces. Re, the sun god was the most important god. Next came Osiris.
Writing
A system of writing in Egypt was called Hieroglyphics, meaning, priest carvings or sacred writing. This form of writing used pictures and abstract forms. These were usually carved in stone. Hieratic script arose being more simpler that hieroglyphics by easier strokes , dashes, and curves.
Art/Technology
The Egyptians created the famous 365 day calender that we use today. The process of embalming for mummification back then has led to embalmers in modern day America. Egypt also made an advancement in Math that helped them build massive building and were able to calculate area and volume.
