Ancient Mesopotamia
Cities/Geography
The fertile crescent is surrounded by great environments. Around Mesopotamia, the Tigris and Euphrates overflow leaving behind it's mud to create rich soil for civilization back then. To the south, the Syrian and Arabian desert is located. With harsh conditions like this, it deterred invasions, but did not completely stop it. The river valleys allowed interaction between city-states.
Government
The government of Mesopotamia is a theocracy. A theocracy is a belief that the government is run by priest and priestess by divine authority. In the government had strict laws known as the Code of Hammurabi.
Social Structure
There wee four main classes in Ancient Mesopotamia. It goes as Priest > Upper Class > Lower Class > Slaves.
Religion
The people of the fertile crescent were polytheistic. Polytheistic means the belief in many gods. To worship, citizens visited temples known as Ziggurats to pay their respects to the gods.
Writing
The people of Sumer created a system of writing that was recorded on a cuneiform, usually a wedge shape. With a reed stylus, they drew wedge-shaped impressions on clay tablets. The use of writing was primarily for record keeping. The texts were also used to train scribes.
Art/Technology
Sumerians created tools back then that influenced modern day technology. Such tools consist of the sun dial, wagon wheel, and the potter's wheel. They are most well known for the making of bronze from copper and tin.
